Legal Basis

ICAA is an international, non-political, non-profit-making organisation governed by the General Assembly and a Board of Directors in accordance with articles 60 to 79 of the Swiss Civil Code and  its Constitution.

Mission

ICAA is dedicated to prevent and reduce the harmful use and effects of alcohol, tobacco, other drugs and addictive behaviours on individuals, families, communities and society.

ICAA sensitises, empowers and educates organisations and individuals in the interest of public health, personal and social well being. It does so through a range of acitivites at international, regional and local levels and through services provided to its membership and the interested public at large.

ICAA believes in the exchange of evidence-based knowledge and innovative approaches. It is committed to undertake this in an independant, apolitical inclusive and transparent manner.


General Assembly

The General Assembly, in which all voting members are represented, meets every three to four years and determines the general policy. It ratifies membership applications, elects the Board of Directors and has a number of financial responsibilities.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors consists of up to 30 elected representatives from voting members. Its composition reflects the diversity of the membership, both in terms of professional and geographical background.  The responsibilities of the Board include the development of guidelines and general policy of ICAA, the approval of reports of activities and of budget and accounts. The Board's current President is Dr Peter A. Vamos, of Portage Program Inc., a large treatment organisation in Canada.

Executive Staff

ICAA has its Head Office  in Lausanne, Switzerland. Rupert Schildböck, Chief Administrative Officer, is responsible for the day-to-day activities and ensures services provided to the membership and interested public.
